And WWI Registration Cards makes 1000!

I have just finished updating the database and uploading images of the WWI Registration Cards for Capertons that registered in WWI. These 139 images combined with the 141 extracted records in the database brings the total records and images to over 1000 at Caperton.info! However I still have a considerable number of documents to scan and add to the site so don't think I am done yet!

Confederate Records Added to At War Collection

I have just added over 50 documents to the At War Collection. Check out the menu link called "Confederate Records". These pages are documents of military files for specific Capertons who fought in the Civil War. They provide great information on perhaps half a dozen Capertons, some of it quite detailed. I have not yet extracted these records so if you are interested in helping out with the extraction please email me and I can set you up. I believe I have the right Henry numbers assigned to them but if you have a correction please let me know asap. Some of you may also have noticed that I have added the 1830 Census to the census databases, however there is only one name in it. I have the list, as well as the census images, and will update as soon as time permits.

DNA Results Posted & 1810 Census Images

The DNA Project pages have been updated to show the results of the DNA samples submitted so far. This Project is off to a good start. We have descendants from Adam and James but would like to see more from all of John's children. And if there are any Caperton's from England lurking out there, it would be GREAT to hear from some of you! I also have two more individuals that have requested information so it is starting to roll! If you want more information on this project, check out the project page and if you have questions use the link there to email me. Note that to see the results pages and the DNA Tree you will need to log in first. As for the 1810 Census, I have finally overcome at least partially a technical issue that was preventing me from linking the census extration to the image of the census page. I have developed a work around that for now will let you view the page by clicking on the thumbnail on the far right of the entry. I also have the images for the 1820 Census and hope to get that extracted and posted soon.

The Caperton Family - Back In Print & The First Newsletter

Great News! I have just received from the printers, the first batch of the softcover printing of The Caperton Family by Bernard Caperton. This is a reprint of the original book including all the pages and photos. Special thanks go to Bernard Caperton's daughters who authorized this reprint of the copyrighted original. The book is softcover to hold down the publishing cost. To have it reprinted in hardback was going to cost over $45.00 each. I have purchased a quantity sufficient to bring the cost of the softcover down to a bit less than $24.00 which includes shipping it USPS Priority Mail of $4.90. If you are interested please click on the 'Store' link in the top menu.

Also - I just sent out the first of what I hope will be a quarterly Caperton newsletter. This electronic version went out to everyone that I had current email addresses for. If you did not get a copy of it and are not registered, then by all means register and you will get the next one. If you ARE registered and did NOT get a copy of if then check your email spam filters and set them to allow email from the @caperton.info domain. Also if you are registered, once you sign in you can view current and past issues of the newsletter by clicking on the Login/Profile link in the top menu. Once you click that link you should see a menu appear to the left that has a "Newsletters" link.

New "Projects" Look

I have updated the look and feel of the two projects associated with the Website. The DNA project is now sporting a "hi-tech" look in shades of Blue, while the Book Project is based on the color red.

You may also notice that they include the words "Caperton Society". Since 2002 I have called the website simply caperton.info. Additionally the site was managed by a group of one - ME. With the increasing amount of information and source documentation on the site being contributed by others, as well as my desire to include even more people in the process and make the website a kind of "homebase" for all things Caperton, it seems only natural that the Website have a more meaningful and inclusive name. As such, I am proposing that the site become "The Caperton Society"

I would very much appreciate feedback using the comments below to get your thoughts on this.

Revolutionary War Pensions on 4th of July!

I have located the files of two men who married into the Caperton family that served in the Revolutionary war. James Kelly's, whose file is 31 pages in size, married Nancy Caperton (B-5) and Joshua Townsend, whose file is 32 pages in size) married Elizabeth Caperton (B-6). I have added a new menu link in the At War section and started adding pages from these files to the site. Remember though that you will need to be logged in to see the listing of pages.

While we are on the subject of Elizabeth Caperton, I thought I would provide an update of where I am at. I have located 168 descendants of the Elizabeth Caperton x Joshua Townsend marriage. I am currently putting together a Family Tree so that I can add it to the site. It will probably be a few weeks yet, but I certainly hope to have it up by the middle of August.

B-6 Elizabeth Caperton Descendants Found!

I have been able to locate information on the descendants of our Elizabeth Caperton (B-6). We knew Elizabeth Caperton married Joshua Townsend. But the trail had gone cold from there. I have now been able to uncover several generations of Elizabeth descendants and hope to completely flesh this line out over the coming weeks/months. If you have information on the Caperton-Townsend line that you would like to share please drop me a line.

In other news, I have put the UK census records for 1841, 1871 and 1891 back online. these databases were the last of the records that still needed to be re-added following the upgrade of the website. The "look and feel" of the database does not yet match the rest of the site, but it soon will.

200 Original Documents now Online!

There are now over 200 original documents online at Caperton.info! This combined with over 500 extracted records brings the total of source information to over 700 records. The most recent additions are in the Newspaper clippings and Obituary collections of the In Writing section. But this is still only the beginning as I still have a large number of letters, newspaper clippings and Obituraies to scan and post.

One of the more interesting newspaper clippings I have posted involves Fred and Victor Caperton, brothers who not only burned down City hall, but shot two deputies (one of which dies) in their attempted escape. The plot is even more interesting as Victor manages to escape and remains on the lamb for nearly 3 years before his capture! I have done some research and discovered that Fred goes on to marry and have a family. Victor however is never heard from again once he is recaptured. Perhaps justice with a rope? To read all about it, login and check out the newspaper clippings.

Memorial Weekend Update

First I hope everyone is enjoying th Memorial day weekend which is a three day holiday for most. At the same time we need to remember why Memorial Day exists, and thank those who serve, those who served, and those who have fallen. Thank you and God Bless You.

I have completed the revamping of the Menu links. I believe I now have them sorted out the way I needed so that I can add future links in a logical manner. The major change s are to Projects, Collections and the Main Menu. Projects were consolidated under one menu link. Current and future Projects are found thru a link called Projects on the Main Menu. This menu link will take you to a page that will allow you to jump directly to the project of your choice. There is now a Collections Link. This link consolidates ALL of the records, documents, History etc. found on the website. Once you click on Collections you will see a Menu on the left appear that will contain dropdowns to any of the records found on the site. All of this enabled me to clean up and reduce the amount of links found on the Main Menu. Hopefully this will make it easier for everyone. Let me know what you think.

I have also FINALLY re-added Gay Nix's research of Nancy Kelly (B-5) to the Family Trees page. You can see this family tree along with the others once you log in. Remember, if you have work that is not found in Bernard Caperton's book or corrections to the book that you would like to appear on the family tree pages send me an email.

Caperton Collections get facelift and a Project Update

I have spent the last week re-working the look and feel of the several database collections found here at Caperton.info. If you go to the Marriages listing for example you will find the look more closely matches the rest of the website now. I have also begun scanning and linking copies of documents from the Caperton.info paper archives and linking them to the database. A good example of this is, again, in the marriage listings. On the far right of the last six listings you will notice there is a grey and black block that denotes an image link. Click on that link and a larger image of the document the record is derived from will appear. There are now about 175 original documents and photos and over 450 extracted records already on the site. While this is a start, I hold over 1000 pages of documents in my own personal collection that I will be scanning and posting in the coming months. If you would like to contribute to this, please email me and we can figure out the best way to get your information online.

Book Project

I am continuing forward with the Book Project. I have about 19% of the pages transcribed. Once I have completed the transcription process, I will begin editing and updating. You can keep current on this project by clicking on the BMC Book II link on the Book Project Main page

DNA Project

I have added a Descendant Chart to the DNA Project. This chart shows the descent of those that hve submitted samples to the DNA Project. As promised you can only see detailed information on the DNA Project if you register on this site. So what are you waiting for?

Newsletter

I am getting ready to email out the First Caperton.info newsletter in probably 5 years. If you would like to receive a copy in your email box you just need to register as everyone that is signed up will receive one. I am hoping to get one out each quarter.
