Preparing your Manuscript

While we can accept quite a variety of formats, the consistent theme running thru all of them is your Manuscript must be publish ready. This means you have crossed the T's and dotted the I's. We do not have editorial capability at this time* so we must insist that your manuscript is in the format that you want it to be published in, with photos, drawings, page breaks etc all exactly where you want them. Once you are comfortable with that, the next step is to send us the file(s). We can accept a variety of files. Below are listed some of the most popular, if you don't see your format then drop us a line and we will look into it.

  • Microsoft Word - these files usually end in .Doc, .Docx
  • Word Perfect -these files usually end in .wpd,
  • Open Office -these files usually end in .odt
  • Adobe Acrobat - .PDF if you send us your file in this format we would really appreciate getting the original file before you converted it as well.
  • Rich Text Format - these files typically end in .rtf, many genealogy programs exported to this format.

If you have an older manuscript that was typed up before the computer age do not panic. we can scan older documents and create a file for your review. Scanning is great when you have letters, diaries or stories left to you by your ancestors and you want to distribute in book form to other members of your family. Note though that the file will not be editable, meaning you will not be able to make changes to a scanned manuscript.

Formats

There are two book formats that we can provide at this time. They are 6" x 9" and 8 1/2" x 11". either Softcover or Hard Cover.

Examples of 6x9 include The Caperton Family by Bernard Caperton, while the larger format is the size of normal copy or binder paper. for either cover type the minimum number of pages is 32 and the maximum number of pages is 740

*We do have an arrangement with White Rose Web Design to provide limited editorial assistance should you need it. Please check the Editorial Box on the Quote Form for additional information.
